Womaness Woman: Lauren Tetenbaum

Get to know an author and advocate championing women through every season of change.

By Womaness Editors     2-Minute Read

When Lauren Tetenbaum talks about life transitions, she’s not just speaking as an expert; she’s speaking as someone who has actively helped women through some of their most defining moments. A licensed clinical social worker, women’s rights advocate, and former lawyer, Lauren taps into her varied experiences to guide women through all those identity shifts tied to career changes, motherhood, and reproductive health. Now, with her new book Millennial Menopause: Preparing for Perimenopause, Menopause, and Life’s Next Period, she’s offering a refreshingly real take on what it really means to enter midlife (she should know, she's 40!)—arming a new generation with the insight, self-compassion, and touch of humor they need to confidently navigate this phase on their own terms.

First thing I do each morning

“Snuggle with my dog and whichever of my two kids has ended up in my bed!

Three things I always keep on my nightstand

“A bottle of water, classic cherry Chapstick, and a good book.

My go-to beauty hack or wellness ritual

“I regularly treat myself to massages, even 10-minute ones at a nail salon—they alleviate stress, help with sore muscles, and make me feel like I'm making myself a priority (which we all have to practice!).”

“Each decade gets better and better as I become more confident in myself and my values.

My inner age (the age I really feel) and why

“I'm 40 and I genuinely feel and love my age. Sometimes when it comes to pop culture or fashion, I feel like I'm in my 20s; but honestly, I wouldn't go back! Each decade gets better and better as I become more confident in myself and my values.

Advice I would give to my younger self

“No one has it all figured out. Stay true to yourself and make your best efforts, which can and will include making mistakes. But mistakes are also opportunities to learn and grow and reflect. It's okay to not be perfect (whatever that means)!

We don’t believe in “The Pause.” Tell us, what are you not pausing on?

“I am not pausing on pursuing my passion for supporting, empowering, and connecting women. Life is hectic and can be hard, but being there for and learning from other women truly lights me up. I hope that my book, Millennial Menopause: Preparing for Perimenopause, Menopause, and Life's Next Period, reminds other women that it's never too early or too late to go for what makes you feel happy.

What's your favorite Womaness product?

Let's Neck. First of all, I love a pun, so I love the name! Second, the neck is too often forgotten in skincare regimens, and I love that this is designed for that very delicate and important part of the body. Finally, I love its light texture and the applicator system.

Word that best describes your Womaness

Lightheartedness—it's important to not take yourself too seriously, and to laugh and have fun!”
